Your Wedding Limousine and Wearing Pearls

Most of our blogs talk, we hope, about pretty useful and meaningful things but we also like to have fun at Bayside Limousines.

So, here we’ll diverge slightly from talking heavily about limousine issues and mention something about wedding folklore.

Recently, a client was talking about details of our wedding limo hire, Sydney and elsewhere for that matter.  As part of that, she mentioned she’d been told that it was unlucky to wear pearls on her wedding day and asked if we’d heard of such a thing.

OK, we admit it – that one stumped us!

Always eager to please, we investigated (actually, the bride to be didn’t really need our input she’d only mentioned it in passing but we looked it up anyway for our own interest).

It transpires that there is an almost global belief that wearing pearls on your wedding day, whether you’re in a luxury wedding limo or not, IS a “luck” issue, though oddly whether its seen as bringing good or bad luck varies by culture.  Some societies think it’s unlucky, others the opposite.

What it takes to Become a Bayside Limousines Chauffeur

We’re sometimes asked just what it takes to become one of our chauffeurs.

Well, it depends of course. No two people are the same and we all have our individual strengths and weaknesses. None of us are perfect!

So, when we’re looking at candidates, we use experience and judgement to look at the person in totality. We sum up many factors before reaching a conclusion. Generally, we don’t have a rigid list but it might surprise you to know that being able to throw a car around in a macho fashion isn’t something that impresses us at all.

In other words, the question is more complex than it might seem at first glance. However, when we’re looking at chauffeurs for Sydney luxury car hire services, we’ll typically value (not in order):

  • The highest demonstrable standards of personal integrity – this is critically important to our clients and therefore us.
  • Maturity of personal behaviour. This is nothing to do with age. Some people can be highly mature, responsible and trustworthy at 23, while others can still be behaving like adolescents when they’re 50.

Countries Banning Conventionally Fuelled Cars

A number of countries around the world have announced decisions to ban all new diesel / petrol (gas) power vehicles from their roads by a specified date (around 2030/2040).

We’d like to clarify what this means, at least as far as the announcements to date indicate.
·
  •       At the time of writing, Australia hasn’t made any such declaration;
  •       The statements have been made by a few countries, most notably Britain and France;
  •       The announcements relate ONLY to new cars from that date onwards.
  •       Some confused reporting has almost suggested images of giant snowploughs driving all petrol and diesel engine vehicles physically off the road on 1st January 2030. This is NOT going to happen – this only applies to NEW vehicles from that time onwards.
  •      There remain some serious issues to be solved in the light of these decisions.

At the moment, it is far from clear if electric vehicle production will be able to take up the slack from 2030 (France) or 2040 (UK) onwards. It might still sound a science-fiction date but 2030 is only just over 12 years away and electric cars still suffer from technical limitations and a limited support infrastructure. Top Tips for Successful Luxury Coach Business Trips

It’s not unusual to find a company that has hired a coach to take its employees to a seminar, conference or simple social event but who have subsequently been disappointed with the results.

Here we’ll examine some of the common causes and their solutions.

Poor turnout / response to invitation

This is a commonly expressed frustration in many organising departments.

Ignoring mechanical causes (such as poor communication of the “we weren’t told” variety or insufficient notice) this is often attributable to:

·         low morale in the company;
·         a lack of interest in the event concerned;
·         conflicting priorities (your event has been scheduled at a time which clashes with other things).

There is no easy answer to this and simply making attendance mandatory isn’t likely to be the answer.  You may need to analyse the causes in more detail.

Dissatisfaction with the quality of transport

In the 21st century, professional people expect corporate transport to be modern and comfortable.

If an “old banger” of a coach arrives at the outset, then already your session is in trouble due to creating the wrong impression.

Be prepared to spend a little money here to get a comfortable limo bus.

Impacting personal lives

Today, most people expect and demand a professional / personal life balance.

So, anticipate dissatisfaction and disgruntled attendees if they’ve had to get up at 4am to make your planned departure time and/or they won’t be getting back home until the early hours of the morning.

A luxury coach might help alleviate some of this through comfort during the journey but it won’t, in itself, be the solution.

Impacting professional lives

On a similar theme to the above, asking people to get back very late to their homes, while expecting them to be back in the office at 8am and firing on all cylinders, is likely to be a recipe for ill-feeling.

Provide or arrange for refreshments

If people have been asked to get up unusually early and been on a coach for some time, then it’s really good psychology to provide (or stop for) some refreshments.

A little caffeine and a calories boost can ensure people arrive at the destination eager to get started rather than tired, jaded and looking for reasons to complain.

Railroading

Ideally, your corporate event should be so desirable by its very nature that your colleagues should be fighting for the chance to participate.

Only use “attendance is mandatory” approaches as an absolute last resort, as touched on earlier.

If you see a lack of interest and voluntary participation, something is wrong and a re-think is required. People typically don’t respond well to being forced to attend company events.

Relate to the wider world

Remember that a corporate event will be seen by many against a much broader backdrop of the wider business world you share with your colleagues.

So, expect a very negative reception for (e.g.) a company team-building exercise held at an expensive external venue, if just a few days before the company has announced major ancillary benefits cuts for employees due to the prevailing economic circumstances.

Restoring a Classic Car

A customer recently asked for our thoughts on restoring a classing early 1970s MG.

Now you may be wondering just what this has to do with something such as Sydney luxury car hire. Well, nothing really!  As you might have guessed though, we have a deep interest in motor vehicles here at Bayside Limousines and some of us have dabbled in this area.

So, here are a very few and very basic tips if you’re contemplating engaging in a classic car restoration.

1. Don’t even think about making a profit out of it! About 99% of all people restoring classics end up hugely under-estimating the costs and that can destroy any profit margin possibilities. If you’re restoring as a hobby and for your own use, then great. Don’t make the “classic mistake” of assuming that you can take your purchase plus restoration costs, add on 50% when finished and then sell it to an army of eager buyers – you’ll probably be disappointed!

2. Look for classics that need restoration but not those that really are only fit for scrapping. It’s sometimes a very fine line and expert advice might be advisable. Read more about Restoring a Classic Car

Maintaining Modern Luxury Limousines

Once upon a time, well within living memory, most cars were relatively simple devices.

That included the engine.

Pick up a book, read a few chapters and you had a fair knowledge of the workings of the internal combustion engine. Buy yourself a few spanners (wrenches), screwdrivers and a socket set, and you were ready to go and fix that troublesome car!

OK, a few years of being asked to do the grunt work, be the butt of jokes and make the tea in a garage, by way of apprenticeship, but then you were ready to go as a car mechanic.

Those days are now the stuff of fond nostalgia!

We should be clear that no “guy with a spanner in one hand and a mug of tea in the other” is going to get anywhere near our prestige vehicles. Why is that?

Confidentially and Chauffeurs

We blogged on this a long time ago but a recent question suggested we should perhaps re-visit the subject again.

All our chauffeurs have been personally and extensively vetted by us. You can be 100% certain that they are trustworthy, responsible, experienced, mature and discreet individuals.

We unconditionally guarantee that we will never, repeat NEVER, just pick up a chauffeur “off the street” for a job (e.g. an urgent stretch limo hire, Sydney or elsewhere) because we’re busy or indeed for any other reason. It simply doesn’t happen.

What this means is that you can be sure that if you’re in one of our vehicles, your conversations with other passengers or on the phone will be entirely private. To put it bluntly, what our clients say in our luxury vehicles stays inside the vehicle as far as we are concerned. Read more about......Confidentially and Chauffeurs

Alcohol and Limo Hire

A story from the US covered a group of parents who’d responsibly hired a limousine to take a group of their teenage children to a school dance.

Shortly after departure and following several near accidents, the passengers realised that the driver (we won’t call him a chauffeur) was completely inebriated and incapable of driving. They insisted he pulled over and incredibly, the kids themselves then confiscated his keys and called the police.

The driver was subsequently found to be several times over the drink-drive alcohol limit.

Of course, the world is a big place and given the numbers of people in it, it’s inevitable that someone, somewhere, will do something wrong.  Even so, we can assure you that such an event would be utterly inconceivable for Bayside Limousines and our hand-picked chauffeurs or we hope, any other reputable company offering limousine hire, Melbourne, Sydney or anywhere else for that matter.

It does though also bring up the question of alcohol in our vehicles. Read more https://www.baysidelimousines.com.au/alcohol-and-limo-hire/

Tyres and Limousine Hire

At Bayside Limousines, we’re justifiably proud of our fleet.

There are some very different vehicles in it but whether you’re considering limousine hire Sydney, Melbourne or anywhere else, you’ll see all our vehicles have one thing in common – tyres!

So, where did the tyre (or tire) come from?

A logical progression

For centuries, people had put things onto the outside of wooden cartwheel rims to try and make them quieter, more comfortable or most commonly, able to last longer on the poor roads. Originally those coverings were leather but later became iron.

The process of fixing those bands in English was called creating “attire”, as in dressing the wheel.

The Scottish dimension

Solid rubber began to be used for some rims in the 19th century.

Incredibly, it was as early as the 1840s that a Scot, Robert William Thomson, patented the world’s first design for a pneumatic tyre but this never went into production.

Luxury Limousines and Parking – FAQs

Here are the answers to some of the FAQs we see on this subject.

Can you wait outside for me if I have only a brief meeting?

Yes.  We are entirely at your disposal for the period of your hire.
However, there is one caveat – that relates to parking restrictions.

We must, of course, obey the law and local regulations. Typically, pulling up for a few seconds to drop off or collect is not going to be an issue with the authorities. It might not though be possible for us to park there longer term.

In such cases, we will usually provide you with a number to call to say that you’re ready to go and your limousine will arrive a few minutes later to collect you.
Is there anywhere you can’t deliver us to?
It’s exceptionally unlikely but it could happen in very unusual cases.

For example, in some cities there are sites called “Red Zones” (or variations thereof) where stopping, even for a few seconds, is strictly prohibited – usually for security reasons. Read more https://www.baysidelimousines.com.au/luxury-limousines-and-parking-faqs/

A Quick Reminder on Wedding Limo Hire Insurance

This is a subject we’ve blogged on before but we’re not going to apologise for issuing a quick reminder.

It’s a subject dear to our hearts because we’re a professional limousine hire company and want to protect the reputation and service quality of our entire industry.

The subject matter is – official wedding limousine hire insurance.

The problem

Let’s be clear – there is nothing wrong with a friend or family member giving you a lift to your wedding service in their car. If the car concerned is a prestige vehicle and immaculately groomed then so much the better. It might be a cost-effective and very happy experience for you.

However, it might not be.

In such circumstances, you and any other passengers would probably be covered by the driver’s appropriate insurance but ONLY if this was being done for you as a personal favour and no money (or the equivalent) was changing hands. The moment the person offering the vehicle asked for or accepted payment, then your lift would become a commercial transaction.

Luggage and Bayside Limousines – FAQs

Here is another in our periodic ‘FAQ’ blogs – this one covering luggage.

“How much luggage can I bring with me?”

We have only two restrictions:
  • in some exceptionally very rare situations, we may have to decline luggage which is, in our opinion, dangerous or a potential significant risk to our vehicle or chauffeur. Such examples might include hazardous material (e.g. chemicals) or certain types of caged animal etc.;
  • that your luggage doesn’t exceed the physical carrying capacity of our vehicle in either cubic capacity or weight terms.
In practice, given advance notice, we should be able to transport just about anything you wish.
“Can you help with my luggage at airport collections?”
